Everybody knows about heart which is present in chest in cardiac region, but how many of us know about there is another heart in our body. shocked! Just cool down
Here in this small article I just want people to know about this second heart which they never heard before. This is actually one superficial muscle of back of leg. So this is your calf muscle along with Gastrocnemius and Plantaris .The name of this muscle is soleus. It runs just below the knee to heels. Human body is made of approximately 639 skeletal muscles each play its own role in
our body. The Function of this muscle is that it play important role in maintaining standing posture, if not for its constant pull the body would fall forward
Now come to the main point why this muscle is called peripheral heart
The muscles of calf play an important role in circulation. Contractions of these muscles help in venous return from the lower limb. The soleus is particularly important in this respect. When you are standing this muscle pumps venous blood from legs or from extremities towards heart When this muscle contracts blood from veins of lower limb is pumped out . The soleus is therefore sometimes called the Peripheral Heart
